DCLM Daily Manna 20 September 2025 Devotional By Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — How To Silence Mockers
TOPIC: How To Silence Mockers (DCLM Daily Manna 20 September 2025)
KEY VERSE: “But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own lusts” (Jude 1:17,18).
TEXT: Jude 1:17-19 (KJV)
17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
MESSAGE:
The creator of the famous and ill-fated ship, Titanic, was alleged to have boasted that not even God could sink the luxury liner. But the Titanic sank on 15 April, 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean. The largest ocean liner was only four days into her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City with an estimated 2,224 people on board. The ship sank, drowning about 1,500. It was as if God indeed proved that no one could openly ridicule Him and get away with it.
From today’s text, Jude refers to the writings of the Apostles. These Apostles are seen as authorities inspired to speak on behalf of God, as eyewitnesses. Their teachings set the doctrinal foundation for the Church. In this particular passage, the Apostle referred to the warnings of fathers of the faith against mockers in the last days who walk after their lustful passion. They live for the pleasure of “now” and reject all historical records of the works of God. To ensure that believers are not carried away by their mockeries, the Apostle admonished that they make an effort to build their faith on the word of God, keep their focus on the
love of God, and live in expectation of Christ’s return.
Believers are warned here to keep mockers at arm’s length. There is no point in paying attention to them. It is a waste of time trying to reply to their posts on social media or debate with them. Instead, we should pay more attention to developing our faith and relationship with the Lord. Those who mock the gospel do so because of their inward failure and inability to overcome their weaknesses. What they cannot conform to, they contend against. As sinking men, they want to drag others along with them.
Believers in Christ should defend their faith against mockers and scoffers by standing on the holy Scriptures. The best answer to mockers is to live out the word of God in practical ways. You should show the world that the word of God is true and that it is possible to abide by it. It is good to silence the mockers by the power of your daily example.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Mockers always meet with disaster, sooner or later.
