Keys To Marital Bliss ~ Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Keys To Marital Bliss

“The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law” -Deuteronomy 29:29-

Every door requires its own key for it to open. Though keys might look similar in shape and size, they might not be able to open one another’s doors. Similarly, what you need to succeed in your business, health, or career, may be different from what you need for your marriage to grow. A marriage that must survive and stand the test of time should be built on the following:

• Trust: Your marriage cannot survive without trust. Whenever the trust is broken, it is difficult to repair. When trust is betrayed, the sense of loyalty is shattered and the victim may go through several emotional stages including anger, grief, hostility, resentment, guilt, and/or depression. The one who has broken the trust must work at rebuilding that trust.

• Communication: Learn to speak and equally listen (James 1:19). As a matter of importance, if there is no good rapport between you and whoever you intend to marry, it’s a strong warning sign. Good communication draws spouses together and builds a bond between them. However, when discussing, rather than trying to think of how you will respond to your spouse when he/ she is done expressing themselves to you, try to understand his/ her point of view.

• Learn To Forgive And Forget: Your partner will naturally make mistakes and at times, offend you, because no one is perfect. God’s Word calls upon us to forgive (Colossians 3:13). Continually bringing up the past mistakes of your spouse creates avoidable strain in the marriage.

• Pray For Your Marriage (Philippians 4:6): Ask God for help and ways to make you marriage better. Marriage is God’s gift to you, but what you make of it is your gift to God. Commit your ways to Him and He will direct and bring your desires to pass.

• Centre Your Marriage On The Word (Psalm 119:105): Set aside a few minutes each day to read the Bible together and pray. Seek counsel from the Word, especially in areas that seem very new to you and you seem not to understand.

The above list is not exclusive in itself, but when you follow strictly these keys in addition to what the Holy Spirit reveals to you, you are guaranteed bliss in your marital life. You will not fail!
