Dress Sense 2 ~ Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Dress Sense 2

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.”  -1 Timothy 2:9-10-

Style has always been an important part of self expression. It gives meaning to our ethnicity, social status, and personal identity. The primary purpose of dressing is to cover man’s nakedness. It can also be based on our professional ethics, weather/ climate change, or personal preference. In all, it should be modest and reflect your Christian values.

Someone rightly said that the way you dress is the way you will be addressed. How true it is! People tend to either accord you with respect or disdain; by the way you are dressed. Even though we are created to be morally independent, with the ability to make personal decisions, we have to make use of our creative mind to filter our dressing in a way that will be pleasing to God.

Your dressing should make you and to a great extent, others who see you, comfortable. There are certain questions you might want to ask yourself before you step out with that dress you just got, or that outfit you dreamt up in your head a couple days ago. Questions like what your dress says about you such as does it draw unwanted attention to you? Does it make it difficult to differentiate you from an unbeliever? Does it make you look smart? Are you comfortable in it? Does it glorify the God in you? are things that should be asked.

As singles determined to make a difference, what you wear should reflect your mission and prove that you are heading to a glorious future. Be modest, decent, and moderate. Dress to win souls, not to weaken their faith. Your dressing reveals who you are and what you are up to. So, be the light of the world that you are and let others glorify the God in you!
